Zion United Church of Christ in Mt. Clemens is seeking a talented and dedicated Church Organist to enhance our worship services through music. The ideal candidate will possess a strong musical background, and will effectively collaborate with the Pastor, Church Council and Handbell Director. This position involves providing liturgically-inspired worship music, leading monthly an informal volunteer choir, accompanying soloists, instrumentalists and intermittently the handbell choir.
Qualifications
· Professional keyboard skills with expertise in playing the organ and or piano.
· Experience working in church settings and worship services is preferred.
· Ability to work collaboratively with the worship and music team.
· Able to commit to a set schedule.
· A passion for ministry and a commitment to contributing positively to the church community.
Responsibilities
· Provide organ and/or piano music and accompaniment for all regularly scheduled worship services (excluding vacation time). This includes special services held at the church (ie. Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Wednesday Lenten Services, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter).
· Provide music selected from the sacred repertoire and liturgically reflective of the church year.
· Interface with the Pastor and Worship Committee.
· Rehearse and accompany simple hymn/anthem with informal all-church choir one time monthly on Sunday morning.
· Practice with soloists and other instrumentalists.
· Rehearse with and accompany handbell choir approximately twice yearly (September-June).
· Introduce new hymns to the congregation as the need arises.
· Provide the church office worship music titles weekly.
· Inform the church office of organ maintenance concerns.
· First right to play weddings and funerals for additional fee.
Hours of Work
· The organist will work approximately 4-5 hours a week. This includes Sunday preparation and worship time for one service (9:00 am worship), one ½ hour Sunday morning informal choir rehearsal one time monthly and time for selecting worship music.

· Paid time off after 3 months of service, up to 2 weeks per calendar year (including 2 Sundays-not including special services or high holy days).

Pay Schedule
· Salary will be commensurate with experience and education.
· Pay is provided once monthly at the end of the month.
